ABOUT KAMAGU

Kamagu is a farm-style Homestead and family-owned safari lodge in the heart of the Ceres Karoo, only 2 hours’ from Cape Town, South Africa. Escape the bustle of the city and retreat into the Karoo farm life with your friends, family and loved ones.

About Us

The Ceres Karoo region, where Kamagu Homestead is located, offers a glimpse into South Africa’s rich and historic past. Less than a 2 hours drive from Cape Town, the area boasts a unique heritage originally shaped by the ancient Khoisan people who thrived here for millennia. Dutch settlers arrived in the 17th century, establishing the town of Ceres, known for its abundant fruit-growing industry. The Great Trek in the 19th century saw Dutch descendants venturing further north, leaving behind a legacy of sheep farming and wild game hunting that continues to define South Africa’s Karoo landscape.

As one of the oldest functional homesteads in the area, Kamagu Homestead was founded on a deep respect for the land and natural splendour of the Western Cape. Here, farm-style life and sustainable practices are not just traditions, they’re the cornerstones of life at Kamagu, and we’re extending that opportunity to our guests.

Kamagu’s architecture and amenities seamlessly blend with the surrounding farm and countryside. The original farmhouse has been meticulously restored, retaining its charm while offering modern comforts. Throughout the property, you’ll find historical touches – antique furniture and original architectural elements – that whisper tales of the past and add to the past.

Slow Living in the Karoo

Kamagu Homestead’s story is intricately woven into the narrative of the Karoo and reflects the region’s evolution. Once a game hunting farm, we acknowledge this history and proudly embrace it as an educational component of the property. While Kamagu no longer endorses trophy hunting, we want to be transparent about our commitment to creating a more sustainable future.

Today, we have embraced a new chapter, transforming into a sustainable sanctuary. The homestead offers a chance to create lasting memories – memories centred around family, fresh air, and the simple joy of learning from and living off the land. We strive to leave a positive footprint on the land, nurturing vegetable and herb gardens, raising farm animals with care, and offering a farm-to-table experience.

Family-Owned Karoo Farm

Kamagu is a family-owned farm where generations have cherished the simple joys of farm life while embracing sustainable practices. Our homestead gardens are filled with fresh vegetables and herbs, while happy farm animals and wild game roam on the grounds. Here, families can experience the magic of farm-to-table living, pick ingredients for your meals straight from the source, and reconnect with nature.
